Design By 9 is an educational book on the most important graphic designers throughout history. We felt it important to tie in the designers under a conceptual umbrella that each designer is a part of a global design ecosystem. To express this, we originally experimented with using maps as a motif, showing how designers bridge countries and continents. However, we found this too literal and instead focused on connecting artists throughout time periods.
With the motif of maps abandoned, we decided to embrace a geometric triangle design throughout the book. We chose triangles because they are unique in that they are the only shape to designate movement, representing the Graphic Designer's goal towards forward movement and progress.
